As a German now living in Israel to me memories are inescapable. Both countries emphazise their special bond that is based on the desire to cope with the Holocaust. As a result of the Shoa, the State of Israel was founded and the defeated Germany got divided into a western and an eastern part, the former BRD and GDR.
